This project was funded by Beijing Natural Science Foundation(No.7032014) and Beijing Municipal Science & Technology Commission (No.954812700) , mainly studying on TCM syndrome distribution law and the influencing factors in chronic gastritis(CG).Meanwhile, we inquired further into the neuroendocrine and immune regulation of the stomach mucosa in different syndromes of deficiency, deficiency with excess and excess . This paper contains mainly epidemiological investigations and clinical trials. Chronic stomach disorder(CSD),belonging to Stomachache, Distension and Distress, and etc. in TCM, is a common and frequently gained disease in which CG and peptic ulcer(PU) are most common. With the invention of proton pump inhibitor(PPI), cases of PU decreased remarkably while the incidence rate of CG remains high. Therefore,CG was chosen as our investigating object. Firstly, applying the method of modern epidemiology and mathematical statistics, we strictly designed the prospective large-sample observation on 960 cases of CG and studied primarily the law of syndrome-distribution, the characteristics of symptom-distribution, and the relationships among syndrome-distribution and symptoms, sex, ages, seasons, addictions to diets, smoking or alcohol, and Helicobacter pylori(HP), etc. Secondly, the syndromes of deficiency of spleen& stomach, spleen deficiency with phlegm-wetness, and wetness -heat in spleen & stomach, which are commonly occurred in different developing stages in the one disease, were chosen as observation targets. Through applying the techniques of pathology, radio-immunology(RI) and immunohistochemistry, etc., and integrating TCM and modern medicine theories, local stomach mucosas of the patients with the syndromes from deficiency to excess were extracted toi nvestigate the regulating modes ofg astrin(Gas), calcitonin gene related peptide(CGRP) and T lymphocyte subgroups . The results and conclusions are as follows: 1. Results of the observation on the law of syndrome-distribution declared that the incidence rate of the discordance between liver & stomach syndrome ranked first among the syndromes of CG, followed by liver stagnation with spleen deficiency, deficiency of spleen & stomach, wetness - heat in spleen & stomach, and deficiency of stomach-yin syndromes. The incidence rate of the discordance between liver & stomach syndrome accounted for 51.0%, stagnation of liver with spleen deficiency for 18.8%, liver stagnation related liver & spleen and liver & stomach syndromes together for 69.8%, and the others for 30.2%. It indicated the variances in the syndrome-distribution of CG whose mainstream changed from spleen & stomach related syndromes, such as the deficiency of spleen & stomach, wetness - heat in spleen & stomach, tot he liver stagnation related liver & spleen and liver & stomach syndromes. 2. Results of the symptom spectrum showed that among the 14 most frequently appeared symptoms in the 960 cases, most symptoms occurred more than 500 times were related to liver stagnation; and those occurred more than 300 but less than 500 times related to spleen dysfunction. Mathematical statistics proved that modern chronic stomach disorder mostly correlated with liver and spleen. Also, our study indicated initial surveys of the distributions and the incidence rates of the symptoms in different syndromes in CG, and established the foundation of further study on standardization of syndrome based diagnosis and treatment. 3. Results of the relationship between syndrome-distribution and ages revealed that CG...
