Epidemiologic Study Of Diabetic Retinopathy

Diabetic retinopathy(DR) is the leading cause of blindness and vision impairment in developed country.In china,with the increasing prevalence of diabetes,DR is becoming a big problem.But little community based epidemiologic study had been done before. So we began our work in Beixinjing district,Shanghai.To investigate the prevalence of DR and its risk factor.Part â… : Epidemiologic survey of eye diseases in communityObjective:To access the prevalence of blindness and visual impairment in Beixinjing District,and to evaluate the risk factors. Methods:535 diabetic patients were examed,digital non-mydriasis fundus camera were used for DR diagnosis. Results :The prevalence of blindness was 1.12% and of low vision was 9.91%,the leading causes of blindness were DR,cataract and other retinal diseases,the leading causes of low vision were cataract,refractive error and DR. Conclusion:The leading cause of blindness in Beixinjing District were DR, cataract and refractive error.Part â…¡ survey of DR in communityObjective:To obtain the prevalence of DR in diabeic patients of Beixinjing district,and evaluate the risk factors of DR. Methods: A representative sample of 535 patients underwent a routine ocular examination, including digital non-mydriasis fundus photography;After the survey ,68 DR patients were chosed to take further exam ,including blood pressure and serum haemoglobin A1c, total cholesterol, high density lipoprotein cholesterol, triglyceride and apolipoprotein and BCVA , OCT.Results: The prevalence of DR was 27.48%,of PDR was 4.3%, the risk factors were duration of the disease , refractive error and PVD of the eye.
