mRNA expression patterns of GGF2 and its receptors erbB2, erbB3 and erbB4 were investigated in brain tissues of lateral fluid percussion (LFP) injured adult male SD rats using in situ hybridization. The present study demonstrated that expression level of GGF2 mRNA was increased in ipsilateral cerebral cortex, hippocampus CA1, CA2, CA3 and dentate gyrus (DG) regions 3d after LFP injury and persisted to 7d post-injury. LFP injured adult male SD rats received liposome-mediated GGF2 transgene therapy. The therapy groups displayed significant improvements in neuromotor functions and survivals of neuron and oligodendrocyte compared with control groups. These results demonstrated the neuroprotect roles of GGF2, and cationic liposome-mediated GGF2 transgene therapy has potential possibility. We purified recombinant GGF2 by prokaryotic expression technology and final productwas indentified by western blot.
