This dissertation describes the chemical and pharmacology study of Corydalis saxicola and the chemical investigation of Veratrum. nigrum. Forty-two compounds were isolated from Corydalis saxicola and fifty-two from Veratrum. nigrum, in which ten were novel compounds. The hepatoprotective and anti-HBV activity of Corydalis saxicola as well as the tocxicity of Veratrum. nigrum were studied. Furthermore, the pharmacological research and the general pharmacology of Total Alkaloids from Corydalis saxicola were studied. Studies on the simultaneous determination and chemical fingerprinting of alkaloids in Corydalis saxicola Bunting. and in Total Alkaloids were performed for the authentication purpose by HPLC-UV. A sensitive rapid method for the simultaneous determination of four major active alkaloids in rat plasma and urine was established and validated, The method was further applied to assess pharmacokinetics and urine excretion of the four alkaloids after oral and intravenous administration to rats.
