It is very important to determine left ventricular function (LVF) in the diagnosis and treatment of heart diseases. Two-dimensional echocardiography (2DE), having the advantages of non-invasive, convenient and no radiation damage after repeated examinations, and the characteristics of real-time presentation and immediate comprehensive observation from different cross-section views of the size, intracardiac structures and regional wall motion (RWM) of the whele heart, is considered to be most valuable non-invasive means to quantitatively assess LVF. It is very useful particularly in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD). However, no report in this field has been found yet in our country. On the other hand most people tend to doubt the accuracy of 2DE quanti-tation because large variability way occur in the courses of either the acquisition of 2DE standard images or its measures. For this reason, the study was firstly undertaken to evaluate the reproducibility and accuracy of the 2DE estimates of left ven-tricular volumes (LVVs) and ejection fraction (LVEF) and the method-ology in quantitative detecting RWM abnormality (RWMA), and secondly, to observe their feasibility and valuability in clinical application in CHD.
