Depression is a mental disorder with complicated etiopathogenisis and has represented a major medical and social problem. At present, searching antidepressive agent from medical herbs and microbes has become a new focus. Cordyceps (Fr.) Link is a large group of entomogenous fungi and an important treasury of drug resources. Preliminary studies have shown that some metabolites derived from Cordyceps have obvious MAO inhibitory activity and antidepressant effect. In this paper, we selected more strains of Cordyceps using different activity-screening models. Meanwhile, the strains tested and its teleomorphic Cordyceps were identified. Paecilomyces tenuipes showed higher activity by different models. So, 10 strains of P. tenuipes from different geographical origins were screened using assays of DPPH-Microplate and MAO inhibitory activity repeatedly. RCEF0788 strain of P. tenuipes was chosen for further study based on the above results. Optimized technologies of culture and extraction of broth were studied for maximal MAO inhibition and bioactive component from broth of Paecilomyces tenuipes (BCPT) were obtained under the optimal conditions. At last, the effect of BCPT on behavior of chronic unpredictable stress (CUS) rats was investigated and the possible mechanisms of BCPT, including antioxidization, immunological...
