Objective: To investigate the incidence of PCOS, the correlative factors for causing PCOS, clinic features of PCOS who are in reproductive age women in YanTai, Shandong province, and to determine the diagnostic criteria of these PCOS females. Finally, the scientific evidence and detailed clinic datas are provided for the correlative factors for the disease, clinic features, and the diagnostic criteria of PCOS females in China.Methods: We investigated 1125 reproductive age women from the community of Huanghai office of Yantai (include 2 universities and 7 nature hamlets) by using the cluster sampling means from the November, 2004 to July, 2005. The investigation included investigative questionnaires, physical exam, ultrasonic scanning, collecting blood samples, the determination of endocrine secretion and metabolism index. We had screened 179 doubtful PCOS females according to the diagnostic criteria of ESHRE/ARSM in 2003(including that chronic anovulia or oligotrichia ovulation, high androgen in clinic, high androgen-emia, the number of 2-9mm antro-follicle that is equal to or more than 12.
