Objective:1.To investigate the clinical characteristics of invasive pituitary adenomas. 2.To define magnetic resonance (MR) imaging criteria for the diagnosis of cavernous sinus invasion by pituitary adenomas.Methods:1.The clinical materials of 62 patients with invasive pituitary adenomas and 78 patients with non-invasive pituitary adenomas were reviewed retrospectively.2.The MR images obtained in 140 patients(62 cases were invasive and 78 cases were non-invasive) were reviewed retrospectively. The standard-of-reference criteria for invasion were the surgical findings. Aχ2 analysis was performed, and the sensitivity(Sen), specificity(Spe), positive predictive value (PPV), and negative predictive value (NPV) of MR imaging signs were computed.Results:1.Invasive pituitary adenomas were more common in patients with macroadenomas than those with microadenomas. The occurrence of pituitary apoplexy was higher in pituitary adenomas patients with invasion than those with non-invasion. The rate of total tumor resection was lower and the rate of postoperative recurrence was higher in patients with invasive tumors than those with non-invasive...
