Part one: The morphologic study of retromandibular vein and its clinical significanceObjective: To investigate the course of the retromandibular vein, and to discuss its clinical significance related to the osteotomy of angle of mandible. Methods: The distribution of the retromandibular vein was observed on 11 human heads fixed with formalin. The whole trunk of the retromandibular vein was exposed; its diameter and length were measured. Its relationships with other structures were studied. Results: The retromandibular vein located behind the mandibular ramus, was composed of superficial temporal vein and the maxillary vein. Its diameter upon beginning was (5.6±2.6)mm . Its length was (44.6±20.8)mm. The retromandibular vein combined with facial vein to form an arch structure, which surrounded the mandibular angle. The length that the vein surrounded the posterior border of ramus of mandible was (42.7±8.0)mm. The length that the vein surrounded inferior border of mandiblar angle was (20.2±4.2)mm. The relationships between retromandibular vein and the angle of mandible cold be defined into two types: tight adjacency and loose adjacency. The; former means that the retromandibular vein and its branches...
