BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVEIn a broad sense, cardiac performances should include an electrophysiological, mechanical and endocrinological function. In the early 1980's, finding of atrial natriuretic peptide made it possible that cardiac endocrinological function was understood. However,little was known about the electrophysiological function.Meanwhile, there has been intense interest in the relationship between intracellular calcium transport, especially sarcoplasmic reticulum(SR) Ca2+ uptake/release, and cardiac mechanical function.
