Proto-oncogene(c-onc) are expressed in normal cells at tightly regulated levels,often in a tissue or developmental stage-specific manner.On the other hand,enhanced or constitutive expression of c-oncs is often,but not necessarily always,observed in in vitro transformed cells and naturally occuring-tumor cells.For example,some murine plasmacytoma cells possessing chromosomal translocation of c-myc often exhibit increased c-myc RNA levels.However,enhanced expression of c-myc is not confined to tumor that possess chromosomal translocations.Nevertheless,higher(10-50X)levels of c-myc RNA than the low level found in quiescent normal cells are a consistent feature of tumors containing activated c-myc.It was noticed that in a comparison of various gene clusters when two genes lie on the same DNA strand and have an intergenic...
