One of the critical subjects for the research of Chinese Traditional Medicine Modernization is to elucidate the theraputical basis and mechanism in order to make its theory, doctrine and experience comply with modern technique characteristics and explain the safety and effect. However, the bioactive ingredients should be knowed for the study of pharmacological action and toxicology and it could help control the quality and establish quality assessment system to link the world.Manchurian Rhododendron is the branches and leaves of Rhododendrom micranthum Turcz., which belongs to rhododendron section. It mainly has the kinds of flavinoids, multi-saponin, tannin and carbohydrate, volatial oil. Folium rhododendri microanthi can be mainly used to treat acute or chronic bronchitis, asthma, dysentery, dysmenorrheal and puerperal general pain in traditional medicine. It also can be used to therapy fracture and sore for external application. The extrct solution of Folium rhododendri microanthi has the effects on bacterium, inflammatory and prostatic hyperplasia. The objective of this paper is to Study on the therapeutical basis of Rhododendrom micranthum on anti-prostatic hyperplasia action by pharmacology and serum pharmacochemistry methods and to isolate the effective chemical components from the plant; to eatablish a method for the assay of multi-components; to Study on the pharmacokinetics of the effective chemical components in Rhododendrom micranthum in order to give a guidance for new medicine on anti-prostatic hyperplasia.
