As the latest generation equipment of film dosimetry, film dosimeter, of which the resolution can be as high as some ten micrometers, is widely used for collecting data of small beams in stereotactic radiotherapy . Its hardware is composed of a film scanner(or a laser digitizer), a PC computer and a hardcopy unit, which are common in most of the radiation oncology departments. Therefore, developing film dosimeter software will provide these departments with economical and efficient measurement tool. Using the developed software(designated FD96) in stereotactic therapy, not only did we test and improve its functions, but also studied two key data figures in stereotactic therapy: off-axis ratio measurements and precision and accuracy of target points.1. Software developmentC++ object-oriented programming technique was adopted. The Windows graphic user interface was designed through inheritance and derivation of ObjectWindows class library provided by Borlandc C++ software package. Test and applications have proved that FD96 pocesses all those functions necessary for film dosimetry. The user interface is friendly and operated easily with Mouse. Handling properly of the execptional errors increases its reliability of applications .The algorithms of dealing with the simulation of detector size and cooordinate transforming between image system and dose measuring system is a creative work which optimizes the management of images.2.
