Objective Pituitary apoplexy (PA) is a clinical symptom complex caused of sudden hemorrhage or infarction of the pituitary tumors. PA displays as flup headache, visual disorder, ophthalmoplegia externa and conscious disturbance, and usually occurred in macroadenomas. If the diagnose and treatment of this syndrome is delayed, it will cause serious nervous system sequela, such as permanency blind, coma and death.It was reported that pituitary adenoma trended to get extraordinary bleeding and necrosis proneness. It was reported that pituitary adenoma bleeding rate was 5.4 times higher than other intracranial tumors, by now. the reason is still unknown. Also, about 50% patients didn't found coexistence with pituitary tumor before the hemorrhage, pituitary adenomas apoplexy can be the first clinical manifestation. Thus, it is key point of diagnose correctly to save the life and visual acuity. This part of research aimed to collect clinical data and made statistical analysis, so that clarified the relations between the apoplexy and sex, age, tumor volume and invasion.Method In this study, we collected 426 pituitary adenoma patients' data between Aug. 2000 and Oct. 2005, and divided them into two groups according to the difference of the apoplexy(83 cases) and non-apoplexy, These data include age...
