BackgroundPituitary apoplexy was discovered by Bailey in1898and Brougham gave its name in1950. Pituitary apoplexy induced by infarction or hemorrhage is a life-threatening syndrome which is characterized by a sudden headache, sudden vision disorder, ophthalmoplegia, different levels of consciousness obstacle, etc. The patients which have a small of bleeding in pituitary have not a typical syndrome, except the endocrine disorders. The pituitary apoplexy can be divided into four types:explosive of pituitary adenoma apoplexy, acute pituitary adenoma apoplexy, subacute pituitary adenoma apoplexy and chronic pituitary adenoma apoplexy. However, the specific mechanism of pituitary adenoma apoplexy is still not clear. Most of pituitary apoplexy have not a apparent cause, but in a few cases such as trauma, blood pressure changing, bromine hidden pavilion and other drugs can induce pituitary adenoma apoplexy. Ki-67is one of non-histones proteins which exist in nucleus. It is proportional to the cell proliferation, and plays a critical role in maintaining DNA structure, thus it becomes a reliability index in evaluation of the the cell proliferation activity. PTTG is a proto-oncogene came from rat’s GH cells and it can induce the occurrence of pituitary adenoma. First, PTTG can form a positive feedback loop stimulated tumor angiogenesis with basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF).Second, the high expression of PTTG lead to genetic instability. McCabe found that PTTG stimulates the production of fibroblast growth factor2(FGF-2) and VEGF by raising the expression of growth factor receptor. The experiments is to study the expression of Ki-67、PTTG、VEGF in in the pituitary apoplexy with immunohistocheemical method and western blotting.Objective To investigate the expression of Ki-67、PTTG and VEGF in the pituitary apoplexy.Methods A total of60cases of pituitary adenoma, including of28cases of apoplexy and32cases of non-apoplexy pituitary adenoma were analyzed for Ki-67、 PTTG and VEGF expression by immunohistocheemical method and western blotting.Results Ki-67expression was significantly higher in apoplexy group than in non—apoplexy group(P<0.05),however, there were no significantly different PTTG、 VEGF expression between those two groups(P>0.05).Conclusion The cell proliferation in the pituitary apoplexy is significantly higher than in the non-apoplexy pituitary, however, PTTG and VEGF have the same ability to induce the blood vessel in the pituitary adenoma apoplexy and the non-apoplexy pituitary.
