BackgroundModernization of traditional Chinese medicine is an inexorable trend on the development of traditional medicine. In China, the plentiful natural resources for traditional Chinese drugs, together with the complete theory in traditional Chinese medical science, foster the potential of Chinese medicine industry. However, the modernization of traditional Chinese medicine has to meet the premises, e.g. to accord to the traditions in traditional Chinese medicine on one hand and to fall into the criteria on controllable quality by western medicine, which surely server the researchers a challenge on the traditional Chinese medicine.The quality control of traditional Chinese medicine is more difficult than that of western medicine because western medicine consists of definite compound regardless of a single drug or a compound preparation, while some effective ingredients of some traditional Chinese medicine or compound preparation are not identified yet and homologous control sample products are not in use yet. In traditional science of Chinese material medicine, genuine medical material is used to describe those from some original place of production, which indicates the origin and place of production...
