Purpose:To investigate the normal enhancement patterns of the pancreas in the early arterial phase, late arterial phase and portal venous phase by using 3-dimensional MRI VIBE (interpolated breath-hold examination) sequence, and to evaluate the capacity of VIBE sequence in displaying the normal pancreatic duct and depicting the peripancreatic blood vessels. Materials and methods:12 healthy volunteers and 48 patients without pancreatic diseases underwent MRI examination for the upper abdomen. The MR scanning protocol included axial T2W and T1 W plain scan, coronal True-FISP, MRCP (MR cholangiopancreatography), Gadolinium-enhanced 3D-VIBE multi-phasic acquisitions and Gadolinium-enhanced 2D GRE T1W scan. We measured the signal to noise ratio (SNR) of the pancreatic parenchyma on three phases images of VIBE sequence, compared VIBE sequence with MRCP in displaying the pancreatic duct, and image quality of peripancreatic...
