Early repair of mandibular firearm defects is one of important topics in war and maxillofacial surgery. As we know, mondern concepts of firearm wound management are founded upon a knowledge of ballistic and ordnance. The severity of a wound is directly related to the amount of kinetic energy lost by the bullet in the body. But unfortunately few is known about the wound ballistic characteristics of mandibular injury caused by high velocity missiles up to now, thus the systemic treatment principles havenot be established yet.The present studies were undertaken: (1) to demonstrate the event that occur with the mandibular after high velocity missile wounding, and to discuss briefly the interaction between the disruptive forces of the missile and the retentive forces of the tissue; (2) to evaluate the possibility of early repair of mandibular firearm defect, and the regulatory role of transforming growth fac-tor-β (TGFβ) in wound healing of mandibular after high velocity missiles wounding; (3) to evaluate the result of early repair of mandibular firearm defect using TGFβ/ Bioglass Ceramic (BGC) composite artifacial bone.
