Extracellular Vesicles (ECV) are probably the result of the budding (extrusion) of the outer membrane of bacteria. The formation of these structures can be a property, either adaptive or functional, of many Gram-negative bacteria.During the formation, many inherent components of bacteria were loaded and concentrated in ECV. Released from bacterial cell surface, ECV could extend the range and intensity of bacterial toxic interaction. ECV can carry many toxic components due to its intact outer membrane. What is more important is the small size of the components can easily permit them to cross some histological barriers that are otherwise impermeable to integral cells.
