The sympathetic nerve plays an important role in the cardiovascular regulatory function. Noradrenaline is considered to be the classic transmitter of the sympathetic nerve, but adenosine triphosphate and Neuropeptide Y (NPY) as cotransmitters. They are all involved in cardiovascular regulation. NPY is a 36-amino acid peptide found in both the central and peripheral nervous systems. Until now the functions of NPY on cardiovascular regulation have been widely investigated.
