The content, location, actions and acting site of endogenous enke phalins in arterial wall were studied.A mean value of opiate-like substances (OLS) in rabbit ear artery measured by bioassay was 377.2 ±118.0pg/mg of wet tissue. The contents of L-enke phalin (L-ENK) and M-enke phalin (M-ENK) in the arteries of rabbit were measured by radioimmunoassay technique, mean values of L-ENK and M-ENK (pg/mg of wet tissue) were 38.99±17.29 and 134.67±8.11 in the rabbit ear artery; 31.10±7.76 and 93.60±18.22 in the renal artery; 25.70±13.60 and 88.43±18.16 in the me senteric artery, respectively. It was showed that the content of enkephalins in arterial wall was dependent on the presence of intact sympathetic nerve. After the excision of the superior cervical ganglions the content of L-ENK in the ear artery was decreased markedly (p<0.01, n=8) it was 12.19+3.67pg/mg of wet tissue. After chemicosympathectomy by injection of 6-OHDA the contents of L-ENK were 8.73±3.95 in the ear artery (n=10); 7.55±2.72 in the renal artery (n=4); 9.40±3.86 in the me senteric artery (n=4) and the content of M-ENK was 43.90±5.49pg/mg of wet tissue in the ear artery (n=10); they were all decreased significantly in comparison with control group (p<0.001). After injection of reserpine, the contents of ENK did not change significantly, L-ENK was 35.42±8.65 in...
