Magnetic materials have been widely used in stomatology for many years. Recently, magnetic materials were introduced into orthodontics by some authors, and great success has been achieved in orthodontic treatment by using magnetic force systems. Experiments about the biologic effect of magnetic field have showed that magnetic fields, above 0.01T yielded certain effects on many organisms. However, little is known about their biologic effects on periodontium. This is the serial study about magneto-orthodontics. Previously, we made a systematic research on the periodontium remodelling style and characteristic during magneto-orthodontics in animals. The result demonstrated that moving teeth with magnetic force was feasible in the point of histology and the periodontium remodelling possessed distinguished featur(?)s, i.e, fast tissue reaction, less tissue lesion and abundant blood circulation. It has dropped a hint that magnetic field might produce some effcts on the periodontium during tooth movement. In order to study the biologic effects of magnetic field on periodontal ligament (PDL) fibroblasts, We chose a magnetic field to treat the PDL fibroblasts in vitro. Our research work includes three parts. Firstly, human periodontal ligaments were cultured in vitro on the purpose of getting PDL fibroblasts for further study. Secondly, PDL fibroblasts from 6th to 13th passage, the stable growing period of which was 5th to 15th passage, were treated with a...
