Transfer factor (TF) is the immunoactive component (s) in dialysates of leukocyte extracts, which has not yet beenobtained under pure and chemically-defined form. This re-port is to demonstrate the antigen-specific activities andthe potential for protective host immunity of TP againstherpes simplex vires type 1 (H3V-1), and to isolate theaffective fraction(s) comtributing to these antigen-specific activities.Mice were immunized by intraperitoneal inoculationwith living HSV-1 in 199 mediun, which was generated in a BHK cell line. Control mice received 199 medium alone on the same schedule. HSV-1 -- immunized mice exhibited marked footpad swelling to HSV-1 antigen. TF was prepated from spleen cells of either HSV-1 -- immunized mice (TFHSV-1 orcontrol animals (TFn) 4 weeks after immunization. The suspension of disrupted spleen cells was subjected to a dialysis by using tubing with a 12,000-14,000 M.W. exclusion size (Spectrum Medical Industries Inc. USA).
