National famous Traditional Chinese Medicine scientist Professor DengTietao puts the five-viscera correlation theory forward; it combinesthe five elements theory with the zang-fu theory, explains the human bodyphysiology and correlative pathology, and guides clinic diagnosis andtreat. Professor Deng Tietao thinks the heart, liver, spleen, lungs, kidneys and correlative six hollow organs, four limbs, skin, tendon, blood vessel, muscles, five-sense organs and seven orifices make uphuman body's five-viscera system. In physiology conditions, horizontal, vertical, and crossed multidimensional relations exist in zang-fuinterior, between zang-fu system and zang-fu system, between zang-fusystem and nature, society, which promote and inhibit reciprocally, exertdifferent functions, and harmonize organismic normal activities. Inpathology conditions, the five-viscera system influences reciprocally. The spleen is one of the traditional Chinese medicine five zang-organs. The spleen, stomach, intestine, mouth and muscles form thehuman body's spleen system together, which controls the key system andthe accessorial systems, the relationship between the spleen and otherviscera is one of the key contents of traditional Chinese medicine five-viscera correlation theory. The spleen- stomach theory of TCM discussesthe interrelations and mutual influences between the spleen, stomach andother zang-organs, the spleen stomach and the human body organization, the spleen stomach and the environments on the basis of focusing on thespleen physiologically and pathologically, and guides clinic practice effectively. The spleen- stomach theory originated from "Huangdi' s Canonof Internal Medicine" and "Classic of Medical Problems", developed inHan and Tang dynasties, maturated in Jin and Yuan dynasties, anddeveloped further in Ming and Qing dynasties."Huangdi's Canon of Internal Medicine" recorded the spleen and thestomach' s statue, region, characteristics and functions in detail. ZhangZhongjing in Dong Han period put forward specifically the viewpoint thattreating the liver disease is by strenthening spleen, brought forward"If the spleen is in place in four seasons, the human body is strong"In Jin and Yuan dynasties Li Gao presented "If the spleen and stomachare in injury, all kinds of diseases and ailments will generate", andemphasized "Treating the spleen and the stomach is treating the fivezang-organs", the spleen-stomach theory is created formally. In Mingand Qing dynasties, Wang Lun represented the spleen- Yin theory; Xue Yiinitiated "The spleen governs the blood"; Li Zhongzi put forward "Thespleen is the foundation of life", and claimed that the spleen and thekidney are equal; Zhang Jingyue emphasized "Dealing with the fivezang-organs is treating the spleen and the stomach"; Ye Tianshiadvocated curing the spleen and the stomach separately, especiallynourishing the stomach-Yin.Modern study proves the spleen of Traditional Chinese Medicine is afunction concept. The function of the spleen includes many systemfunctions, such as: modern medicine digestive system's absorption,water-electrolyte metabolism, conversion of energy, blood, neuroendocrine, immunity and motion, which generalizes digestive systemand its correlations comprehensively. Now the essential study of thespleen has gone deep into cytokine, great changes have taken place ininvestigatory methods, depth, width, means and approaches. Zhao Yiye andother researchers believe substantial foundation of five-visceracorrelation is neuroendocrine network, correlative parenchyma is mutualinteraction and relationship in the network.Professor Deng Tietao recognizes all along that the spleen and thestomach have a very important role in the human body function, who curesmyasthenia gravis, chronic hepatitis and cirrhosis of liver, chronicgastritis and gastroduodenal ulcer on the basis of the theories: "the deficiency of both spleen and stomach, the five zang-organs correlates","strenthening spleen for the liver disease, the five zang-organscorrelates", "Curing both spleen and stomach mostly, the five-organscorrelates", and obtains the permanent clinic curative effect.Ye Tianshi was a famous Chinese physician in Qing dynasty, whosedisciples compiled "Case Reports for Clinical Practice" which Chinesephysicians regarded as the rules at that time. According to his clinicrecord, Ye Tianshi attached importance to the spleen and the stomach, especially in treating miscellaneous diseases, although he is aspecialist in curing seasonal febrile disease. The theory of curing thespleen and the stomach separately advanced by Ye Tianshi instruct theclinic effectively till now."Case Reports For Clinical Practice " (Chosen from "MasterpieceLibrary of Chinese of the Past ", edited by Liu Gengsheng, publishedin 1997 by Hua Xia Publishing House)has 10 volumes, enumerates 89evidences, specializes more than 3000 recipes and involves internalmedicine, surgery, gynecology, pedology and so on. Cases of cureingdiseases by curing the spleen and the stomach are founded in each kind ofdiseases. "Case Reports for Clinical Practice "has 2579 clinic cases,1713 of which are about the zang-fu correlation, 1046 of which areinvolved with the spleen-stomach correlation and the spleen, stomach andother zang-fu correlation, accounting for 40.56% of the total cases,61.06% of the zang-fu correlation clinic cases. More than 400 kinds ofmedical herbs are used in the whole book, the medical herbs in turn usedthe most frequently is: Poria, Radix Ginseng, Rhizoma Pinelliae, RhizomaZingiberis Recens, Radis Paeoniae Alba, Pericarpium CitriReticulatae, Radis Angelicae Sinensis, Radis Glycyrrhizae, Cortex MagnoliaeOfficinalis, Radis Ophiopogonis, Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae, SemenArmeniacae Amarum, Rhizoma Coptidis, Ramulus Cinnamomi, RhizomaZingiberis, Radix Rehmanniae, Herba Dendrobii, Radix RehmanniaePreparata, Exocarpium Cirri Grandis, Radix Aconiti LateralisPreparata,Fructus Ziziphi Jujubae, Fructus Lycii, which is administeredequally in more than 100 clinic cases. The book separates 1713 medicalrecords into two parts: One part is about spleen-stomach (include spleenand stomach, wood restricting earth, painful abdominal mass, dysphagia, gastric nausea, eructation, vomit, vomit axcarids, anorexia, hiccup, gastric upset, the spleen-warm syndrome, diarrhea, dysentery, hematochezia, epigastralgia, abdominal pain, malntrition, vomiting anddiarrhea), the other one is about other kinds of diseases, whichdissertates the theory of curing spleen-stomach disease on the rule ofspleen-stomach correlation, curing spleen-stomach disease on the rule ofother zang-fu correlation, curing other diseases on the rule ofspleen-stomach correlation, curing other diseases on the rule of thespleen, stomach and other zang-fu correlation. By counting herbalmedicine usage frequency and degree, nature and flavor frequency anddegree, cannel tropism, cluster analysis and correlation analysis on thebasis of the theories: The rate of herbal medicines belong to SP and STis 53.21%.it is found that the core herbal makeup and adding-reducingmostly is spleen-stomach herbal medicine(Poria, Radix Ginseng, RhizomaPinelliae, Rhizoma Zingiberis Recens, Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae,Radis Paeoniae Alba, Radis Ophiopogonis, etc.), nature and flavor ismostly sweet and warm, reflecting Ye Tianshi attached importance tospleen-stomach; Science characteristics of administering drugs simple andadministering more spleen-stomach drugs reflected that five-visceracorrelation had general clinic use value, although he didn't definespleen-stomach correlation in due form. It is fact that spleen-stomachdrugs' usage in Ye Tianshi' s medical record is correlative. In thecourse of clinic verification, the ancients understand all kinds ofcorrelative elements. Although they haven' t written out definitely"Five-viscera Correlation" in the medical record, they understand thatthe disease is dynamic, and can develop and transform. The diagnosis, treat and medicine usage must be adjusted according to the transformationof the state of an illness. Traditional Chinese medicine theory comesfrom the clinic. This thesis reflects that five-viscera correlationtheory has prevalent clinic value from an angle of the ancient medicalrecord.Analyzing roundly diagnosis and treat information of "Case Reportsfor Clinical Practice", applying modern statistics means to analyzecorrelative information, and summarizing its clinic rule of exertingspleen-stomach theory will enrich the contents of five-viscera correlation and represent five-viscera correlation's practical value.
