Objective : To test the feasibility of the radioactive plastic stents; To evaluate the feasibility and safety of the radioactive stents. Methods:Radioactive plastic stents were designed and its feasibility was tested in animal;Healthy pigs were used in this study ,they were were divided into three groups on the basis of radiation dose and implanted radioactive stents in the pancreatic or bile duct. The radiation dose of the reference point calculated by TPS was 50 Gy in Group A, 100 Gy in Group B,and 150 Gy in Group C. The pigs were followed up after implantation. Results: None of the stents were obstructed and all the seeds remained in the original position of the stents. The migration of some stents was found .There were no obvious dysfunction in the adjacent organs. There were no serious abnormalities noted on blood tests. In the groups of radioactive pancreatic duct stents, the normal morphological structure of the pancreatic duct wall disappeared; In the groups of radioactive bile duct stents, perforation of the common bile duct was not observed and necrosis of mucosal layer existed. In 50Gy Group mild hyperplasia of mucosal glands was seen. In 100Gy Group almost no hyperplasia of the mucosal glands could be found. In 150Gy Group mucosal glands obviously decreased .Conclusions:The design of radioactive plastic stents is feasible; The radioactive stents are safe and feasible; It is feasible to design a special radioactive stent through TPS.
