"National Drama Movement ", is a slogan created by a group of Chinese studentsstudying in the U.S. in the1920s. It is the confirmation of self-awakening oninternational background, it is a re-perception of national consciousness, it is the joyand confidence declaration of re-discovery of the unique value of Chinese drama. It isthe expression of personal freedom from different voices under the group’s name. Ittried to break the barriers of class, breakout from partisanship. Members can freelyexplore their voice under the flag of theatre. They presented and expressed, not thepursuit of a uniform language, does not attempt to derive the ultimate nature of theconclusions. Their theoretical construction may not be perfect, but it provided a wayfor us to go further by left behind many of the outstanding drama topics. They ignorethe difficult plight of the people’s poor livelihood, do not blame the personaldifficulties, independently expressed the spirituality, highly respected pure art, showsfocused engagement and fearless courage. We can blame their union is not extensiveenough, not bearing generous enough, not widely expressed themselves, but we can’tmisunderstand their courage and the spirit of daring beyond the open atmosphere.Their consciousness of the world, the future, the democracy, modern thoughts, andintegration are worthy of thinking, understanding and deserve respect. This is alandmark attempt on the history of Chinese modern drama as well as the movement ofmodern ideas of drama and arts."National Drama Movement "has a very complex background, intricate members.Traditionally it’s mixed, generally were more assertive, very few are objective and fair.This paper reviews the movement’s historical evaluation, and base on first-handinformation from "National Drama Movement" as a starting point, carefully derivefrom the original article, re-exam the essence of the book, to restore the originalcontext of groups of people, understand author’s thoughts, break out from the politicalideology, focus on the pure understanding of true integration of art and humanity,trying mine out theatrical drama and theater practice desire of the earliest obsessedgroup of scholars. This paper observe the characters’ inner lives of individuals insteadof overlooking, spanning on both coordinates on centuries of history, yet onhorizontal and comprehensive comparison of different characters’ spirit of love andlife-like encounters, both on the individual groups of scan, and analyze individualgroups of life of their different temperaments, restore the individual’s real characters,real sentiment of their unique mood, trying to get closer to the character’s inner world,depicting different characters from the mentality of tracks, tease out someunderstanding of the laws of drama, hoping to provide certain inspiration for drama’sfuture path.
