Shen Character Drama Thought

Shen Defu is a famous theorist of Chinese classic drama in the late period of Ming Dynasty. He put forward the theory of'Yuan Dynasty select the official according to the Yuan drama', which had been influenting on future generations. He made the Yuan drama as the model of the drama ,and expressed obviously the tendency that he put more emphasis on the North drama than the South .He regarded'Natural color'and'Adeptness'as the standard of criticizing the drama,and objected the custom of the'Pian Qi'(luxuriant word). Many records in the drama theory of Shen Defu , provided many necessary and historical datas for the posterity's research on the drama of Yuan and Ming Dynasty .This thesis will throw light on his drama thoughts by researching his drama theories and combines the social cultural thoughts of current and the conditions of drama development in the middle and the late of Ming Dynasty.The thesis is constituted by four parts. The first part is an introduction. That mainly introduces the family background and works of Shen Defu, and also contains the currently research condition of Shen Defu's drama thoughts in the educational circles. So the first part puts forward the shortage of the research and the discussing point of the thesis .The second part firstly generalize the content of'Yuan Dynasty select the official according to Yuan Drama'theory, then inquiry into the cultural background of Shen Defu 's'Yuan Dynasty select the official according to Yuan Drama'theory and his orthodox thoughts that the theory reflect. At the foundation of the explanation of the'Natural color'and'Adeptness'of drama theorists in the middle and late of Ming Dynasty, combining with the custom of drama field ,the third part puts forward and proves Shen Defu's drama theories of'Natural color'and'Adeptness'. The last part generally introduces Shen Defu's view that he regards the North drama is more important than South .The whole thesis try to get two gains: the first is to set up the frame of Shen Defu's classic drama theories, and explore the clue of his drama thoughts. The second is get a conclusion that he is an transitional by pass discussing the drama thoughts of Shen Defu, which were representative.
