A Study On The Social Function Of Chinese Accordion Art

Musical instrument, as a substantial entity to load musical culture,serves as an essential approach to explore the musical system and its original culture. Musical instrument is the main objective of exploration in the study of musical instrument, and it incorporates musical archeology、Acoustics、Systematic musicology and ethnic musicology closely.The early study of musical instrument lays emphasis on the ontological study of it. Yet the multi-dimensional、intricate relationship between musical instrument and culture in society has gained more popularity among scholastic circles ever since the 1950 s.Culture is the source to breed musical instrument, yet the existence and transmission of cross-cultural communication is bound to trigger off a series of innovation of musical instrument.it is embodied no only in the external forms as shapes of musical instrument、operational skills、stylistic feature of works but also the internal layers of symbolized implication and social function of musical instrument.The present dissertation makes a tentative study of accordion,exploring the changing process since it was introduced to China, and investigating the evolution of it’s social function in different periods of time in China. To make a through study of accordion from the perspective of social function is unperceived in the related fields of accordion study,and more importantly, this study explores the interrelationship between accordion and cultural、economic and political system from the dynamic perspective and social humanistic background, thus compared with the study of musical instrument itself, this study is more worthwhile and meaningful. In terms of research methodology, this paper adopt the dividing field approach which put accordion in it’s belonging cultural field to study the impact exerted on accordion by cultural components、economic structure and aesthetic attitude of China. By means of such a study approach, the aim to find the links between musical instrument and human society will be achieved.With reference to related literature, the author draws a conclusion that the art of accordion entails the following social functions: cultural recognition and transmission、creating of economic value、reflection of social system and aesthetic attitude、entertainment. In the process of illustrating her argument, rather than regarding the external changes of shapes of musical instrument 、 the means of performance and ethnicaloriginal music, the author lays more emphasis on the part player plays in participating a series of artistic activities regarding the music instrument accordion. she brings into the classification of musical audience、the study of social status of the accordion musician and the process of professionalism. By this way of expounding by combining players and instrument together, the developmental trace of a certain musical instrument in the human history is better exemplified.Additionally, the author holds the view that the eclipse of accordion artistic is attributed to the inappropriate way of development in this circle and the deterioration of social circumstance. To make a rational analysis of the development of accordion artistic from originality to prosperity and then the status quo of debilitating is helpful to find the basic norm of development existing in human society. Thus, with this norm,other musical instruments may find guiding principles for their survival and inheritance in their domestic or foreign cultural circles, and this is the very purpose of writing the present dissertation.
