This dissertation, based on the case study of Mr. Ya Ming, focuses on the analysis of the art language of paintings, with the purpose of exploring the relation among the art language, the art style, the historical context of the subject and the personal art pursuit. Mr. Ya Ming is one of the most important painters, organizers and propellers of New Jinning Painting School, and his art experience and art creation not only influenced Chinese paintings at that time, but also left great legacy to Chinese painting history. The writer tries to via analyzing his typical works of different periods reveal his concept of ‘Chinese painting is formulary but flexible ’while keeping the character of Chinese paintings language, and his valuable attempts on prime subjects such as how to continue the tradition of Chinese paintings in the new social and cultural environment. The analysis and study of Mr. Ya Ming’s painting thoughts as well as his art experience will with no doubt help us find the path in our closest ‘tradition’.
