As the second emperor of Northern Song dynasty,Tai Emperor Zhao Guangyi(939-997,soon changed his name as Zhao Jiong)was a wise leader and an outstanding politician. Tai Emperor was a man of many talents, he love reading and calligraphy. He also has an exquisite craftsmanship and complete self-cultivation on the calligraphy. During his administration, Tai Emperor gives full play to calligraphy’s innovative applications on reality about "diligent humanity and promoting ethics". By doing this, he initiated 300 years tradition of "Rule of cultural relics" and start the ancestral law of "Administration by calligraphy". Against the background of patriarchal clan ideology, the ancestral law of Tai Emperor Zhao Guangyi have been inherited by his later generations and come into being a characteristic cultural tradition of " imperial award calligraphy" in Song Dynasty.Tai Emperor Zhao Guangyi was also a core strengthening of early Song Dynasty. His calligraphy creations and calligraphy aesthetics have property to vintage and rule-advocating. Meanwhile, his calligraphy aesthetics also have a characteristic of meditation and enlightenment property. This calligraphy aesthetics profoundly influenced the latter Song Dynasty’s calligraphy aesthetics. The Chun Hua Ge Tie and The Interpretation of Words which is edited by imperial order has profoundly influenced calligraphy aesthetics from Song Dynasty. Royal emperor taizong of song dynasty is the Lord of the "enlightenment" in the history of Chinese calligraphy.We might have to set a high value on Tai Emperor Zhao Guangyi’s position and his significance in History of Chinese Calligraphy.
