A Research On The Commercial Civilization And The Social Transformation Of China

With more than 30 years of open and reform policy, China has made great progress in his economy development. Meanwhile, more and more social problems such as belief crisis, credit crisis, food safety, polarization between the rich and the poor, class immobilization, power corruption and environmental pollution have been emerging, which leads to scholars’ deep thinking on the social transformation of China.Based on the theoretical background of economics, socialism, management and history, this thesis establishes the models for the evaluation of commercial society transformation and commercial civilization transformation with literature review, systematic analysis, Analytic hierarchy process and consulting experts. Moreover, we thoroughly investigate the issue of contemporary social transformation of China with the experience and progress of social transformation in developed countries as a reference.The main conclusions include:(1) It describes two stages included in the commercial society transformation. The first stage is the transformation from "ex-commercial society" to commercial society, and the second one is from commercial society to commercial civilization. (2) Through "Commercial Society Transformation Evaluation Model", it conducts empirical research on Western European society in 16th century, the Chinese Ming Dynasty in 16th century and Chinese society in 2001 and answers "Needham’s Problem" from the perspective of social transformation. It also analyzes the contemporary social transformation of China originates from commercial society and terminates in commercial civilization. (3) With the research on the problems of contemporary social transformation of China using "Commercial Civilization Transformation Evaluation Model", it suggests that those reform theories such as "Cat Theory", "Touching the Rocks across the River Theory", and "No Argument Theory" have historical limitation on contemporary transformation of China. Instead, the transformation requires top-level design; the transformation from commercial society to commercial civilization is a process that balances political, economic as well as cultural transformation.Combining theoretical analysis and experiential analysis, this thesis makes three major contributions in the field. (1) Based on the theoretical analysis of layers and characteristics of commercial civilization, it creates the two-step framework that contains "ex-commercial society transforming to commercial society" and "commercial society transforming to commercial civilization", and clearly defines commercial society transformation and commercial civilization transformation. (2) It creates the evaluation model for business community transformation based on the analysis of the transformation from ex-commercial society to commercial society, and also carries out the empirical analysis of the three society samples. (3) It creates the evaluation model for commercial civilization transformation and further studies the problem of contemporary social transformation of China based on the theoretical analysis of the transformation from commercial society to commercial civilization.
