The current developments of countries all over the world should avoid industrializations and urbanizations at the expense of agriculture, food and ecology, especially for our country, a huge population base makes the food, energy and environment crisis caused by the rapid expansion of the cities more acute. The growing Urban Agriculture strategy in foreign countries for the past few years is one of the important ways to deal with this problem.Summarize the historical evolution of the positional relationship between food producer and consumer and detail the development of urban agriculture since the 18 th century. Point out that the dynamic mechanism of the reviving urban agriculture is to repair the ecological, social and personal metabolism rift, and summarize the complex functions of the contemporary urban agriculture. The differences and relations of contemporary urban agriculture and rural agriculture are analyzed, and the characteristics of contemporary urban agriculture in developed and developing countries are compared. Summarize the key factors of successful urban agriculture programmes, and point out the challenges urban agriculture face and put forward some countermeasures.
