There are many advantages in Beam-Column end-plate connections, such as convenient for construction, rapid construction and seismic resistance. The Beam-Column end-plate connection is one of the main connections for the steel structures. The Beam-Column end-plate joints are assumed to be rigid and pinned in analysis of steel frame construction. However, in fact, most of the connections are semi-rigid between the entirely rigid connection and the perfect hinge. The semi-rigid composite joint with the Beam-Column end-plate connection is actuating junction in the steel frame construction and one of the critical factor for performance of the whole steel frame construction. The composite action between concrete flange slab and steel beam greatly improves mechanical property of joint in the semi-rigid composite joint with the Beam-Column end-plate connection and increases the initial stiffness, moment capacity and rotation capacity of joint. Therefore, it may assurance the ductility and the energy dissipation capacity of semi-rigid steel frame in the seismic.The dissertation, supported by the china postdoctoral science foundation (No. 20070410174) is concerned with the effect of characters of the semi-rigid composite exterior joint with the Beam-Column end-plate connection on overhang anchorage for concrete flange slab and the thickness of the plate that is inserted between the end-plate and the column flange, including as follows:1. Founded on the wide investigation and study and the lots of the references, the research advances of the semi-rigid composite joint with the Beam-Column end-plate connection are analyzed for the past few years.2. Three semi-rigid composite exterior joint with the Beam-Column end-plate connection are tested. The effect of characters of the semi-rigid composite exterior joint with the Beam-Column end-plate connection on overhang anchorage for concrete flange slab is studied.3. Four semi-rigid composite exterior joint with the Beam-Column end-plate connection are tested. The effect of characters of the semi-rigid composite exterior joint with the Beam-Column end-plate connection on the thickness of the plate that is inserted between the end-plate and the column flange is studied.4. The effect of the initial stiffness, moment capacity and rotation capacity of the semi-rigid composite exterior joint with the Beam-Column end-plate connection on the overhang anchorage for concrete flange slab is analyzed by the component method and the plastic analysis. Their computing formulas are developed.5. The effect of the initial stiffness, moment capacity and rotation capacity of the semi-rigid composite exterior joint with the Beam-Column end-plate connection on the thickness of the plate that is inserted between the end-plate and the column flange is analyzed by the component method and the plastic analysis. Their computing formulas are developed.6. According to the test and theory analysis for the effect of characters of the semi-rigid composite exterior joint with the Beam-Column end-plate connection on overhang anchorage for concrete flange slab and the thickness of the plate that is inserted between the end-plate and the column flange, the design curves are provided and the design method of moment-rotational characteristic of the semi-rigid composite exterior joint with the Beam-Column end-plate connection is recommended.
