Status of power transformer is an important guarantee for the security and reliability of power system . In event of power transformer failure, the power supply would be badly affected, causing huge economic losses. According to the characteristics of power transformer fault, paper studied power transformer fault location approach based on ant colony algorithm. Power transformer faults test would be faster and more accurately realized with less cost .Specific work are as follows:A lot of power transformer fault analysis have done and abnormal phenomenon of power transformer fault and hidden faults have concluded according to the common faults of power transformer, which provided the experimental foundation for power transformers fault location. Power transformer fault detection technology was studied and power transformer fault test path was further studied. Fault tree analysis(FTA) technology was used to constructed power transformer fault classification tree and test power transformer fault.The characteristics ,the principle , realization process and algorithm model of ant colony algorithm were studied. The research on factors such as the importance of pheromone, evaporation coefficient of pheromone, amount of ant and the pheromone quantity deposited by ants is performed by simulated experiments. Analysis and comparison of colony algorithm and other intelligent optimization algorithms was presented. Two typical improved ant colony algorithm was studied: minimum and maximum ant colony system and adaptive ant colony algorithm. The correspondence was set up between the power transformer testing method and the variety of ant colony, which was inspired by the polymorphism of ant colony algorithm and dual population ant colony algorithm. Multi-colony ant algorithm suitable for fault tree search was finally proposed. The simulation of multi-colony ant algorithm of different parameters was studied.In order to improve traditional power transformer fault location approach, ant colony algorithm was used. Power transformer fault location model based on ant colony algorithm was proposed by study of fault tree analysis. Power transformer fault location approach was optimized with global optimization and heuristic optimal of ant colony algorithm.Fault importance and fault probability were introduced power transformer fault location system, which was inspired by the fault tree quantitative analysis method. Ant multi-colony algorithm was used to realize Location.Simulated experiment was studied under two main conditions. Firstly, further testing should be done to determine the exact location and reason in event of power transformer failure. Secondly, further testing should be done to determine fault property, location, scope, extent when one or more standard exceeded on monitor, test or transformer failure. Simulation research of tap-changer fault and abnormal temperature fault location approach based on ant colony algorithm was done. The simulation showed that this method is feasible and effective.
