This Thesis presents an analysis on voltage control and voltage stability in distribution system, in the presence of Coordinated Distributed Static VAR System (D-SVS). The steady state voltage and reactive power control in distribution system without and in the presence of Distributed Static Var are evaluated. The impact of the Coordinated distributed for various possible operations is investigated.Overall results shows that the Coordinated Distributed Static VAR System (D-SVS) affects positively, the steady state voltage and reactive power control as well as the voltage stability margin in the distribution system. The type and operation characteristics of the Distributed Static Var affect the influence on the control and stability. If the Distributed Static VAr compensator is properly coordinated with reference to time of demand of reactive power in the various Buses, proper voltage stability can be maintained.Steady state voltage and reactive power control in the distribution system can be properly controlled by coordinating Distributed Static VAr compensator with reference to the wide margin in time of demand for reactive power by different Buses on the power system. In this thesis a simple method is derived to achieve a coordinated control by determining the optimum set points of the compensator from line calculation and letting the compensator operate based on local measurements. Finally the coordination of distributed Static Var compensators (ID-SVC) on the Nigerian rural power network offers a potential cost saving method to improve voltage stability in the Distribution system.
