The treatment based on differentiation of syndromes in Chinese Medicine (CM) has manifested its superiority to some chronic and common diseases. However, the detailed interpretation of the etiology and pathology for Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) based on CM theory, and the mechanism of the differentiated treatment and CM formula are still unknown. 1. Objective According to the hypothesis that the disease, symptom-complex, formula in CM are complex system, this study tends to explore the mechanism of RA both in theoretically and experimentally by a CIA research approach. 2. Methods 2.lTheoretical method: Literature survey, epidemiological Study (Cross- sectional Study, Longitudinal Study)and Logic Analysis were used to explain the rule of RA based on "Collateral Theory" 2.2 Eheoretical study method: With the model of CIA rats, the intervention of Qingluo Yin (QLY), Wenluo Yin (WLY), and MGCTR as control groups, we adopted the following technique in our in vivo study. (1) Pain test 21cC, 5-8cC, and 42-45oC for 1, 7, 21 and 33 days, respectively. The symptoms of CIA were evaluated by measuring the size of ankle, the temperature of anus, the skin of knee, ankle and weight.
