Chronic hepatitis Virus B is a kind of infectious disease which is severely threatening human health. Africa, Asia, such as China and Vietnam are the highly epidemic areas. Research on effective therapy and drugs for chronic hepatitis Virus B is well noted. In recent years, therapy on chronic hepatitis Virus B with traditional Chinese medicine has achieved considerable progress. On the ground of the theory of traditional Chinese medicine, my thesis generalized the clinical experiences and scholarly attainment of my tutor (Professor Jinshi). We observed the effect of "Longchaitang" designed by Professor Jin for treating Chronic hepatitis Virus B through the comparison with the effect of control group of Silibinin in clinical trial, which set ground for the further research on new medicine.Method : 60 patients with chronic hepatitis Virus B were randomly divided into two groups, 32 in treating group and 28 in control group. The treating group was treated with "Longchaitang" (Longkui, Chaihu, Huangqin, Fabanxia, Jigucao, Yujin, Xiakucao, Baihuasheshecao, Chuipencao, Nvzhenzi, Baishu, Gancao etc). One dose for 1 day. Each decoction was decocted two times. Patients were asked to take it in the morning and evening respectively. The control group was treated with Silibinin tablets. Patients were asked to take 2 tablets in one time, 3 times a day. Course of treatment : 3 months is one of course of treatment for both groups and effect were estimated after 2 courses of treatment.Result : As for the treating group, basic cure rate is 56.25%, effect rate is 37.5%, nullity rate is 6.25% and the total effect rate is 93.75%. As for the control group, basic cure rate is 14.29%, effect rate is 46.43%, nullity rate is 39.28% and the total effect rate is 60.72%. Basic cure rate and total effect rate are significantly different between the two groups (P<0.01). Compared with the control group, the treating group had significantly better effect on relieving symptoms, such as fatigue, poor appetite, abdominal distention, hypochondriac pain and deep yellow unrine (P<0.05, P<0.01). Patients liver function (ALT, AST, y-GT, TBiL), protein metabolic function (ALP, G, A/G) as well as cytokines (SIL-2R, TNF-a) in the treating groups had significant changes towards beneficial directions compared with the control group (P<0.05, PO.01). The rate from positive to negative of the virus duplication indices (HBsAg, HBV-DNA) is significantly higher in the treating group than the control group (PO.05, P<0.01).Conclusion : Longchaitang has such following actions on treating chronic hepatitis Virus B: relief symptoms and signs, protection of liver function, anti virus and immunological regulation .
