Chinese patent medicines play a very important role in civil health care,but they only cover 3%-5% of international market. There are several reasonsfor this situation. First, most of the formulas of Chinese patent medicinesare rational but maybe not optimum. As a result, the doses are very largeand coursing a difficult preparation and administration. Second, the modernpharmaceutical technology hasn t been utilized enough during themanufacturing of Chinese patent medicines. So, the appearances and thequalities of Chinese patent medicine are not good enough to enterinternational market. We present a new concept that optimizing Chinese patentmedicines. That is using mathematic methods to optimize the formulas andpreparations of Chinese patent medicines to improve their qualities. Direct Experimental Design DED that used in this paper is created byprofessor Zhang xuezhong based on orthogonal design and uniform design. Itsprinciple, mathematic model and five good rules are already verified. Theresults from such method are better than from uniform design and theexperimental degrees needed in this method are less than in orthogonal design.Study to improve the quality of Chinese patent medicines and to decrease thecost of Chinese patent medicines by using this method is meaningful.The experiments in this paper can be divided into there parts1 Optimizing the formula of Kanggongyan tablet by using DED1.1 Objective Kanggongyan tablet is enrolled in the criterions of Chinese patentmedicines issued by The Healthy Ministry in volume 11th. Its actions andindications are cleaning up damp-heat and stopping morbid leucorrhea. It sused to treat the symptoms of morbid discharge by damp-heat, leukorrea withreddish discharge, cervical erosion and bleeding coursed by chroniccervicitis. The current technics of extracting and moulding are not good.Large dose of crude preparations were consumed. The dose was very large andthe efficiency was so-so. So we expect to improve its formula by using DED.1.2 Method Experimental scheme was designed by utilizing the computer software RDZ,taking the three herbs in the formula of Kanggongyan tablet asfactors ,designing three levels of 5,6,3 respectively. Six trials would havebeen done. The data of acestoma weight of every rat group were gained from thepharmacological experiment of rat chronic inflammation model induced byembedded tampon under the experimental scheme above. Ingredients and their英文摘要 VIIratio in different formulas were independent variables, the acestoma weightof rat were dependent variables. The data were statistic analyzed by usingSAS system. The result showed that two ingredients had positive relevant to theeffect and one ingredient had negative relevant to the effect. There newformulas were selected according to this result. the pharmacologicalexperiment of rat chronic inflammation model induced by embedded tampon onthe three new formulas ,the old formula and positive drug PrednisoloneAcetate were performed respectively.1.3 Results The new formula contained 2 ingredients decreasing from 3 ingredientsin the old one, but the effect of the large dose group, middle dose group,small dose group, the Kanggongyan tablet group comparing to the model groupshowed significant statistic difference p<0.01 . The result from mean valueanalysis showed that the middle dose group was most effective ,better thanthe Kanggongyan tablet group.1.4 Conclusion The experimental result was accord with the theory forecast.
