The pathological changes of brain and the water containing in the brain in neonatal rat with HIBDObjective: To detect the pathological changes of brain and the water containing in the brain in neonatal rat with hypoxic-ischemic brain damage(HIBD). Methods: The 7 day-old SD rats were subjected to the ligation of right carotid artery (ischemia), then they were put into a box full with 8% oxygen and 92% nitrogen for an hour (hypoxia). The light microscopy was used to detect the brain pathological changes .The changes of brain water content were measured by the wet and dry weight methods. Analyzing data was analyzed by One-Way ANOVA. Results: The changes of right side of rat brain had distinctly pathological changes by 6- 24 h of HIBD. And infarction of brain tissue had been observed by 72h of HIBD. The brain water content was increased markedly compared with that in the control group after 6 h of HIBD and increased further with time in neonatal rat. Conclusions: The pathological changes of brain and the increasing of brain water content have shown apparently in the brain of HIBD rat. It suggest that the HIBD model was successfully setup in neonatal rat.
