[Objective] :To observe the effect of the poly lactic acid (PLA) membrane and chitosan membrane to inhibition of scar formation after the filtration surgery.[Method] :9 rabbits (18 eyes), divided into the PLA group (6 eyes), the chitosan group (6 eyes) and the control group (6 eyes) randomly. All rabbits accepted the trabeculectomy. We put a piece of 4><4mm membrane between the sclera flap in the PLA group and the chitosan group. After the surgery, we observed the intraocular pressure (IOP), filterable bleb and inflammatory reaction, and histological changes in 8 w later.[Result] :1 , Of the 3 groups ,the filterable bleb were most obvious in the first week after thesurgery, there were no difference among them; 4w and 8 weeks after the surgery, the blebs of control group were smaller than those of the two experimental groups while there were no difference between them.2 , All three groups, IOP droped obviously during the first week after the surgery. But later, IOP of the control group was higher than that of the experimental groups, and IOP of the two experimental groups'was more lower than that of pre-operation (P<0.01),but there was no difference between the two groups (P>0.05).3^ Histological study showed that the number of the fibroblast cells and inflammatory cells in the PLA and chitosan group were less than those in the control group.4> Hyphema occur was less in the filtration surgery without peripheral iridectomy. [Conclusion] :1 -. The chitosan and PLA did have effect in the filtration surgery to prevent theformation of scar.2 s Cmpared with chitosan, result of PLA was better.3 -. The filtration surgery without peripheral iridectomy had less complicationsthan those did that ,and they had the same effect.
