Studies On Hormones & Drugs Abuse Analysis And Clinical Utility

Background: There are legal and clinical requirement for developing new methods, and the increasing utility of saliva for hormone and drug analysis makes development of laboratory procedures necessary and timely. Recent years the utility of GC/MS used in research before are increasing used in clinical laboratory because its superior advantages of this technology. In this study, we developed new methods of hormones and drugs for aiding legal decision or clinical diagnosis. Meanwhile, the clinical utility of hormones and drugs need to be reevaluated response to increasing new methods with the development of new technology.Objective: To study the analysis and clinical utility of drugs and hormones. Methods: GC, Inert GC/MS, DPD RIA, ICP/MSResults and Discussion:1. Saliva provides a convenient diagnostic fluid from which to monitor, non-invasively, the bio-available fraction of steroid hormones circulating in the bloodstream and entering tissues.2. Insulin changes of arterial calcium stimulation test is an alternative tool when an insulinoma cannot be localized by noninvasive means, because it may not be palpable at very early stage.3. The results showed that Human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) level of post menopausal women are higher than that of reproductive age women. And a procedure to investigate suspected false positive HCG result was established for protecting patient from unnecessary investigation, needle or dangerous therapy .4. We described a GC/MS method suitable for the routine detection and confirmation of THC, Opiate in urine.5. The first time, a simple, direct method of disulfiram test using GC to monitor medical compliance of anti-alcohol abuse was established. The method set up corrected diethylamine/creatinine ratio 2 das cut-off value of determining whether patients who have been prescribed disulfiram are taking their medication when collection time is from 7 to 16 hours after single dose.6. Two special cases of life threatening "supplement abuse" in children were reported here to highlight that drug abuse not only includes therapeutic drugs and commonly abused drugs like Opiate or Marijuana, also involves some food supplement or traditional natural herbs or ingredients. Toxicity could be resulted from over-consumption or some special population especially children.Conclusion:1. Saliva cortisol has been proved a good noninvasive simple, convenient, accurate, and cost-effective tool for clinical use.2. Insulin can be used as an alternated tool for localizing the tumor when imaging tool failed at very early stage of tumor.3. GC or inert GC/MS method suitable for the routine detection and confirmation of ethanol, methanol, THC, Opiate in urine according to clinical requirements.4. Drug abuse not only includes therapeutic drugs and commonly abused drugs like Opiate or Marijuana, some food supplement or traditional natural herbs or ingredients should also need regulation.
