The investigation on the chemical constituents of the flower-buds of Panax quinquefolium L. has resulted in the isolation and structure elucidation of 38 compounds based on the physic-chemical property and spectroscopic analysis.The 38 compounds are as followed: panasenosideⅡ(1),kaempferol(2),trifolin(3),panasenoside(4),2'-deoxyuridine(5), 2'-deoxythymidine(6),2'-deoxyadenosine(7),adenine(8)pinoresinol(9), 4,4',8'-trihydroxyl-3,3'-dimenthoxyl-9'-lignanolide(10),panaxynol(11),panaxytriol(12), ginsenoyne A(13),ginsenoyne D(14),ginsenoside-Rb1(15),-Rb2(16),-Rb3(17),-Rc(18), -Rd(19),-Rg5(20),-F2(22),-Re(27),-Rg1(28),-Rg2(29),-Rh1(30),24(R)-protopanaxatriol(31), psuedo-ginsenoside-F11(32),-RT5(33),ocotillol(34),notoginsenoside-E(21),-Fe(25), gypenoside-Ⅸ(23),-ⅩⅦ(24),majoroside-F1(26),β-sitosterol(35),daucosterol(36), hexadecaoic acid(37)and(z)-9-octadecenoic acid(38).Among these 38 constituents,panasenosideⅡ(1)was a new compound,and identified as kaempferol-3-O-β-D-glucosyl(1→2)-β-D-galactoside-7-O-α-L-rhamnoside. 2'-deoxyuridine(5),2'-deoxythymidine(6),2'-deoxyadenine(7),adenine(8)pinoresinol(9), 4,4',8'-trihydroxyl-3,3'-dimenthoxyl-9'-lignanolide(10)were isolated for the first time from the Panax sp.,and ginsenoside-Rg5(20)was isolated from Panax quinquefolium L.for the first time.A review on the NMR characters of darmmarane-type triterpenoids was given,on the basis of the spectra data of compounds isolated from Panax sp..
