Objective:. Neurological complications is frequent after cardiac surgery. In order to reduce neurological complications, we want to search for a imaging method that it can assess brain injury after deep hypothermia circulatory arrest earlier after operation. Methods:First, animal model of deep hypothermia circulatory arrest(DHCA) were established.12 zhonghua little pigs were divided into 2 groups,6 in each group. Experimental group underwent DHCA, control group were only anesthesised. All animals were alive after operation. Second, detection of MRI.1 day before operation, all animals underwent Diffusion-Weighted Magnetic Resonance Imaging(DWI), T1WI, T2WI; 24 hours after operation, all animals underwent DWI, T1WI, T2WI again. Third, histological and pathological inspections. Fluoro jade-c staining, TUNEL, Nissl staining, HE staining were carried out. Finally, the results of DWI were compared with histological and pathological inspections, to verify if DWI can assess brain injury after DHCA earlier. Results:In control group, no new focal brain lesions were detected by postoperative DWI, T1WI, T2WI. In experimental group, T1WI, T2WI did not find new focal brain lesions after operation, but new focal brain lesions were detected by postoperative DWI. Denatured neurons were found by Fluoro jade-c staining, TUNEL, Nissl staining, HE staining in the same brain lesions detected by DWI. The results of DWI were accordance with Fluoro jade-c staining, TUNEL, Nissl staining, HE staining. Conclusions:DWI can assess brain injury after DHCA, furthermore, DWI could found brain lesions that were not detected by T1WI, T2WI.
