Purpose:To establish the reference values of the diffusion apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC)values of the normal human brains as comparison for studying the pathologic changes.Material and methods: 101 healthy volunteers were examined by using Simense Sotana 1.5T MR scanner with brain about routine MRI and DWI,DWI was performed in 3 directions with b values of 0,500 and 1000 s/ mm2.46 men and 55 women ranging from 5 to 76 years old(mean age,40 years) were divided three groups as adolescent group(less than 20 years old),adult group(ranging from 20 to 60 years old)and elderly group(more than 60 years old).ADC values were acquired by measuring 40 brain anatomy structures in each age group. Results: The ADC values of normal brain structures were as follow: the highest ADC values (2.87±0.19) ×10-3mm2/s were cerebralspinal fluid in the bodies of lateral ventricles, lower in the cortical gray matter (0.83±0.08) ×10-3 mm2/s, the ADCav values of cortical white matter were (0.78±0.07) × 10-3 mm2/s, and lowest in the deep gray matter structures as caudate nucleus, putamen and thalamus (0.69±0.05)×10-3mm2/s, the ADCav values of cerebellum gray matter, hippocampus, pon, cerebellum white matter and deep white matter were between the cortical white matter and the deep gray matter.Except for gray matter and white matter in the cerebellum, the ADC values in other parts among three groups were significantly different.Conclusions:1.ADC values of various structures in normal human brains among various ages were...
