With Tibetan Buddhism's spreading into Mongolian regions, Tara belief becomes popular among the Mongols. Tara belief originated from India and spread to Tibet and then from Tibet to Mongolian regions. In Monasteries of Mongolian regions, there are not only reciting the verses of praise of Taras and dance Taras Cham but also dedicating to the statue and thangka of Green Tara, white Tara and twenty-one Taras.In addition to Temples, there are many tales about Tara in written works by Mongolian scholars and Mongolian folktales. Green Tara and white Tara are most popular in Mongolian regions."Novel on Green Tara" and "Novel of White Tara" widely spread in Mongolian regions and are known to almost every Mongols.Besides Green Tara and white Tara, twenty-one Taras is also very popular in Mongols. It is said that twenty-one Taras was developed from Green Tara. As talk twenty-one Taras, we cannot fail to mention "In Praise of the twenty-one Taras". There are twenty-one Taras painting and "In Praise of the twenty-one Taras" in Mongolian, Tibetan and Sanskrit in Arjai-Grotten of South Otog League, Ordos."In Praise of the twenty-one Taras" spread widely in Mongolian region in various versions. In this thesis, the author collates different versions of Tibetan "In Praise of the21Taras" firstly and then collates different versions of Mongolian "In Praise of the twenty-one Taras" and interpreted the texts and sum up the features of Mongolian translation of "In Praise of the twenty-one Tdrds"; finally, introduces each of twenty-one Taras and discuss the influence of "In Praise of the twenty-one Tdrds" on Mongolian culture.This thesis is composed of introduction, three chapters and summery five parts.In the part of introduction, Significance and purpose of the topic, background, research methods, research materials are given and the circumstances of Tara beliefs in Mongolian region, Tibet and India are introduced.The firs chapter is composed of two sections. In the firs section, introduces Mongolian, Tibetan and Indian versions of "In Praise of the twenty-one Tdrds". In the second section, introduces various versions of Mongolian "In Praise of the twenty-one Tdrds" and relative documents and then tells the fourteen versions of Mongolian "In Praise of the twenty-one Tdrds" which the author collected.The second chapter is composed of three sections. In the first section, regards the "In Praise of the twenty-one Tdrds" in xylogragh Tibetan Kangyur published in1683as basic text and collate different Tibetan versions. In the second section, regards Mongolian xylogragh "In Praise of the twenty-one Tdrds" which published in Beijing in1443as basic text and collate different Mongolian versions. In the third section, interprets the text of "In Praise of the21Taras".The third chapter is composed of three sections. In the firs section, studies Mongolian translation of "In Praise of the twenty-one Tdrds", sums up the feature and distinguishes the relations between different versions. The second section, depending on the text of Mongolian "In Praise of the21Taras", introduces twenty-one Taras functions and characters one by one. In the third section, briefly introduces the influence of "In Praise of the twenty-one Tdrds" on Mongolian culture.Final part is conclusion.
