| The thesis aims at exploring such intrinsic features of Marxism as its being scientific, practical, open and people-oriented against the argument as to whether or not Marxism was still effective when international socialist movement was at a low tide. The thesis is intended to specify the inner bases on which Marxism has been irrefutable and has been advancing with age. Hence, the aim of the thesis is to enable more people, including the author of the thesis, to have a better and sound understanding of Marxism, to convert the faith in Marxism into scientific faith and to stick to Marxism confidently.The thesis consists of five chapters. Chapter One expounds that Marxism is based on scientific world outlook, which is the living soul enabling Marxism to advance with age. The emphasis of the chapter is laid on illustrating:G) Marxism抯 strict spirit proceeding from reality; and seeking truth from facts;?revolutionary dialectics and rational spirit of dialectical thinking;﹕cientific theory of knowledge and advancing spirit of courageous criticism and selfcriticism. These illustrate that it is a key to understand Marxism that advances with age. It is because Marxism is the scientific world outlook that Marxism can bring to light the universal law and point out the right direction for us to understand the world and change it, to criticize the old world and create the new one. And Marxism, therefore, can keep close to the developing and changing realistic society, and uninterruptedly go forward with the development of objective things and the advancing steps of history.Chapter Two expounds that Marxism adheres to the view that practice is of first importance, which is the energetic source enabling Marxism to advance with age. The emphasis is laid on illustrating the basis of this view. It proves that: the theoretical foundation of Marxism is materialism, but the practical materialism alone can give birth to Marxism; Marxism is the outcome ofintensifying contradictions of capitalist system, but it is, in the final analysis, the result of social practice; Marxism is in pursuit of a fine social system, but only in practice can a fine social system be realized. And then, these lay bare some profound features of Marxism itself, and enable us to understand, in a new way, why Marxism can always discover the truth by practice, verify and develop the truth by practice again. Practicing, understanding, re-practicing, reunderstanding, they repeat themselves in endless cycles; and each circulatory content of the practice and understanding goes into a higher degree relatively, and makes a new step with the advancement of times. Introducing practice and putting it in the first position, Marxism obtains constantly advancing source and running water and thus gets the inexhaustible motive force enabling it to advance constantly.Chapter Three expounds Marxism抯 feature of being open is all-inclusive and endless, which is the rich nutriment enabling it to advance with age. The emphasis is laid on illustrating that: the wide cultural view of Marxism inherits and develops all the excellent cultural legacy created by human beings; Marxism, having a mind as open as a valley, holds the scientific attitude of drawing all the excellence of different theories and schools; Marxism, an open system, leaves new growing points full of energy after each advancing. All of them prove Marxism is not closed but open, is not stagnant but developing, and has quite strong inclusiveness and limitless developing space. Thus, like all the open systems having newly emerging opportunities, Marxism can, necessarily, assimilate rich nutriment from its feature of being open and reap new and rich fruits in accordance with the demands of times.Chapter Four expounds that Marxism, from beginning to end, sticks to the basic interests representing the masses, which is the powerful internal force enabling it to advance with age.
