Modern Chinese Mass Media And Literature

My dissertation first makes a systematic study of the origination and development of modern Chinese mass media and literature as well as their relationship in interdisciplinary perspective, the unique role of modern Chinese mass media in the modernization of modern China and its culture, further the driving force for the rupture and continuity of modern Chinese culture and literature梞ass media, and the transition of Chinese "elegant" literature to "pop" literature as well as their reversal mechanism, so that we could understand correctly the cultural function of mass media and the developmental law of modern Chinese culture and literature, and evaluate correctly the new-vernacular literature promoted by the "May4th" Movement in 1919.This is significant both academically and practically for us to realize these because it can really contributes to the modernization of Chinese culture and reconstruction of Chinese discourse for literary criticism.The dissertation consists of eight chapters. Chapter one is about modern Chinese mass media and the establishment of discourse right of media; chapter two about modem Chinese mass media and the development of Chinese literary expression; chapter three about modern Chinese mass media and the evolution of literary propagation media; chapter four about modern Chinese mass media and the translation of Western literature; chapter five about modern Chinese mass media and the creation of modern literary forms; chapter six about modern Chinese mass media and the formation of groups of writers, literary schools and literary movements; chapter seven about the rupture and continuity of Chinese literature; and chapter eight about Chinese literature splitting into the elegant and the pop and the reversal tendency of Chinese literary development at the turn of modern times. In the dissertation I point out sharply the key problem to call on the academic circles to rethink it so that we could further seek the correct direction for both mass media and new-vernacular literature.
