The research to complicated legal case novels has been doing for nearly a hundred years. Some great researchers, such as Luxun, Hushi, Sunkaidi, and so on, proved many important ideas in the twenties of last century. There are also some new results of the research to complicated legal case novels at late 15 years, and more and more researchers are paying special attention on this research field. How ever, due to the limit of the concept of complicated legal case novels, the research is meeting with some obstructions. For example, It's difficult for the researchers to agree to each other on some important aspects, such as the origin of complicated legal case novels, the number of complicated legal case novels, the relationship between complicated legal case novels and chivalry novels, and so on. This thesis no longer regards complicated legal case as a kind of novel theme as the researchers usually do, but take it as a literary element in the text.The whole thesis is over 130,000 words. In the first five chapters, the thesis describes the expressing pattern of complicated legal cases in novels at different dynasty and their value in the text. Chapter 6 makes a concrete analysis to four complicated legal cases formulae: murder for adultery, litigation for illicit relations, murder for robbery, murder for revenge for family members. Chapter 7 intents to point out the deep influence of Chinese traditional culture to complicated legal cases in novels. Chapter 8 analyses the evolution of the prototype of complicated legal case from the individual case of XieXiaoe.
