The novel must be made during Qing Dynast via the research of its internal evidence such appellation and proper nouns as.The available versions so far, in addition to the versions in the Republic of China which is only left with contents, are the three copies for the first which are published by Tian Yi press in Taiwan in1974, but which do not indicate the draft, just say "it shall be works of late Qing Dynasty, is very rare, with no description". Here this article takes this as a research text.Lin Zexu was born in fifty years of Qianlong (1785), died in Daoguang thirty years (1850). He had been a successful candidate in the highest imperial examinations in Jiaqing sixteen years(1811). Serving as a Provincial Judge in Jiangsu in1823and also acting as the finance minister of Jiang Su soon, taking the charge of the finance minister of Jiang Ning in1831and the Governor of Jiang Su from1832to the December of1836, Lin Zexu makes a great contribution in reorganizing maladministration and public security when he was in positions of officials in Jiangsu for seven years. The achievements of Lin Zexu in Jiang Su hold one-third space of the Detective Stories of Lin and are written to reproduce and supplement the historical events. We can get knowledge of the basic characteristics of selecting materials for novels by contrasting the description and the historical facts of Lin Zexu in Jiang Su. The selection of the overall events with sharp contradiction is good for prominent conflicts of stories and dramatic effects, thus is in favor of spreading. The people’s evaluation retained in the Detective Stories of Lin for Ling Zexu still holds great reference value in today’s research for Lin Zexu.Comparative analysis and social historical criticism are the methods used in this thesis. Compared the Detective Stories of Lin and the other detective novels in Qing Dynasty in the style of writing, it explores the inheritance and development of the traditional detective novels and the variant significance of the novel in the history of detective novels. Social historical criticism, from a socio-historical perspective, observes, analyzes and evaluates the Detective Stories of Lin, focusing on the study of the relationship between the Detective Stories of Lin and social life, attaches great importance to authors’thought-orientation and works’social function.
