Young China is the official publication of the youth's organization named the Young Association whose norm and influence are the widest in the period of May 4th Movement. It lasted six years from its starting July, 1917 to its end May, 1924. It was during this period of time that Chinese culture underwent its unprecedent and prosperous time from disorder to recreation. Meanwhile, a great variety of western social thoughts came swarming into China and complied with the Chinese social reform. They occurred and recurred, waxed and waned, rose and fell in a very short time. Members of the Young China-either those who studied abroad in Europe transmitting and studying social thoughts of the western world or those who demonstrated, implemented and strengthened all kinds of doctrines domestically-once in a time came to be the major power in the New Culture Movement. Young China, became the organ of studying the reason and logic and conveying the doctrines. Therefore it's of great signification to study thoughts that appeared is May 4th Movement and then analyze the periodical publications relationship with social thoughts as well as its position in the culture movement, with the Young China Association as the basis for the study, with the Monthly Magazine Young China as the windows for that period. It is just the origin of this thesis. The whole thesis consists of three volumes, six chapters and conclusion.The first chapter is the review of the research on Young China, in which the author does on arduous job of carding the general situation of the study about the publication in recent sevenly years, and on these basis, puts forward the method and way of considering the problems which the research on Young China and the social thoughts in the period of May 4th Movement. The second chapter is devoted to the summarization of the publication. In this part, the author carries on detailed research about a series of problems: the publication's origin, purpose, editorship, publishment, sources of artides, writers and readers, By employing many historical methods, such as coparing history, meovuring analysis, research based on concrete evidence, textual criticisn and so on, the author does all he can to dissect the main condition of the monthly magazinedeeply, establishing the basis for the research about social thoughts in theperiod of May 4th Movement. At the same time, he reflects the interaction of Young China Association and Young China, together with the relathionship between the monthly magazine and Young World.The important part of this thesis is to study the relationship between the Young China Association and social thoughts in the period of May 4th Movement, circling around Young China. Because of the YCA's current influence and the trend to try hard in the field of social movements and ultural movements, the monthly magazine not only is the reflection of nation's doctrines, thoughts, the women's liberation thoughts, the socialist's thoughts, the anti-christian thought, the work-study interaction doctrine and so on, but also puts forward the thoughts above in different degrees.Chapter 3 presents the Young China Association and the current of thought in nationalist education. There are three reasons to check up nationalist education. Firstly, the activities and business of the academic association stress considerable emphasis on industry and education, as a result of which the members make a point of nationalism in the education or show sympathy to it. Secondly, nationalism multiplied out of academic parties discuses emphatically on the nationalism in education in the inner part of YCA, especially in the Young china. Thirdly, there always contains a bind of special nationalism inclination in the inner part of the academic association from it the end of 1923 .But on the nationalist education, most of the me members, including the communists, hold sympathetic attitude.
